North Wall Matters – February 2023
Providing more outdoor play space for the kids in St. Laurence O’Toole National School – Tell me what you think!

This coming Monday, will see Dublin City Council host an Information Session for North Wall residents to discuss the potential for expanding the outdoor playground space for St. Laurence O’Toole National School.
The school formally requested of the Council permission to extend its existing outdoor play space to incorporate part of the streetscape along Sheriff Street and St. Laurence’s Place East. Given the increased the school population, it is a necessity for the school to have more outdoor space for the kids to play in at break times.
This is actually a proposal I first put to Dublin City Council early in 2022 and followed that up at the Area Committee in June of last year requesting that the Area Office and the NEIC Project Implementation Board back any formal request from the school. I am delighted that both organisations are providing that support to St. Laurence O’Toole National School.
With that in mind, the Council has organised Monday’s Information Session to gauge the views of local residents before a formal proposal to remove the public right of way along St. Laurence’s Place East is considered by local Councillors. The meeting will take place between 5pm and 7pm in the St. Laurence O’Toole Recreation Centre on Monday next, February 27th.
I’ve attached below some images detailing the additional space that could be granted to the school for use as an expanded outdoor play space for the kids. I’d really welcome your feedback, so please email me at RayMcAdam@gmail.com.
