#ConstitutionHill redevelopment – Design team appointed. Clear timeline now in place.

Following my re-election in May 2019, I have continued to put pressure on my Fine Gael colleagues in Government and Dublin City Council officials to prioritise the redevelopment and refurbishment of housing complexes on Dorset Street, Matt Talbot Court on North Great Charles Street and Constitution Hill in Broadstone. I’ll provide further updates on Dorset Street and Matt Talbot Court in the coming days, but I want to focus this update on Constitution Hill.

Last year, local Minister Paschal Donohoe T.D. along with outgoing Housing Minister, Eoghan Murphy T.D. allocated initial funding to Dublin City Council for the redevelopment of Constitution Hill to begin. Let me reiterate, Fine Gael in Government has started the process of building 130 new and better homes for those families currently living in Constitution Hill. That initial funding enabled the Housing Section of Dublin City Council carry out feasibility works to help guide how the redevelopment will take place. In recent days, Grafton Architects were appointed by the Council to progress work on finalising the detailed design programme. They will consult with Constitution Hill householders and engage with Councillors like myself before submitting a formal report to the Department of Housing by July.

I expect, all going to plan, that the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council will present a formal planning to Councillors for our approval before the end of this year. This will be a huge step and one that Constitution Hill householders need to see happen.

Let me reiterate the point that before any formal reports are submitted to Government and a planning application presented to Councillors, proper and meaningful engagement with householders and residents of Constitution Hill will take place. Irrespective of the consultative work to be carried out by Dublin City Council, I will engage with every household to update them and seek their feedback.
