Constitution Hill Matters – October 2018
Dear Resident,
I write to share with you an update provided to me regarding issues with vermin in the complex.
Some householders raised this with me when I called to homes last month in addition to correspondence I received via email. Like other elected representatives, I sought clarity from Council officials on the actions to date and what further measures may be required.
I hope the information outlined below is of assistance to you. If, obviously, you have any questions or queries arising from the details provided, please come back to me and I will endeavour to answer any enquiries that you may have.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of help to you or your family.
Best Wishes,
Ray

WHAT ACTIONS HAS DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL CARRIED OUT TO DATE?
I have been advised that a Mobile Crew from the Housing Maintenance Department of Dublin City Council has been treating the commons area within Constitution Hill for the past number of months with rat bait. Reports were most recently received by the City Council on October 1st last, after which a full inspection of Constitution Hill was carried out. Following that inspection and a previous one undertaken on August 31st, the Mobile Crew, I understand, detected “no noticeable signs of infestation in the complex and no bait had been interfered with”.
WHAT PROCESS IS EMPLOYED BY THE CITY COUNCIL IN DEALING WITH VERMIN PROBLEMS?
The process undertaken by Dublin City Council in dealing with rat or vermin problems is to lay bait boxes in shores and safe areas where there is no access by children. These areas are checked approximately 2 weeks later to determine if the bait has been taken which indicates a presence of vermin. In such cases further bait is laid, rechecked and re-laid until such time as the issue is resolved. With regards to Constitution Hill, Dublin City Council will continue to monitor the common areas for the foreseeable future and will undertake any and all necessary actions to deal with any vermin should they be identified within the complex.
WHAT HAPPENS IF INDIVIDUAL HOMES ARE AFFECTED BY VERMIN?
Where reports of possible rat infestation occur in individual homes, Dublin City Council will immediately report such incidents to the Health Services Executive. The Pest Control Section of the Health Services Executive has direct responsibility for dealing with and seeking to address any issues with infestation of rats or other vermin in individual homes.
