NEWCOMEN BRIDGE CYCLE PROJECT – road safety audit NECESSARY
Residents from East Wall and across the North Strand have been in touch with myself and Minister Paschal Donohoe expressing their concern about the new traffic management system in operation at the junction of Ossory Road and the North Strand Road.
These concerns have centred on the narrowness of the entrance to Ossory Road and the closeness of waiting vehicles to the newly installed Traffic Lights. Dublin City Council Engineers have now confirmed to me that the remaining construction works associated with the Newcomen Bridge Cycle Project are expected to be completed by the end of this month. Before works are officially ‘signed-off’ on, a Stage 3 Road Safety Audit will be undertaken on site. The audit will identify any potential safety hazards which may affect any type of road user and suggest measures to eliminate or mitigate those problems.
As a local Councillor, I will be liaising with the Engineers in the Transportation Department of Dublin City Council to ensure that all necessary measures are implemented to address any road safety issues identified through the Road Safety Audit.
