North Inner City Roads & Footpath improvement programme, 2024

Delivering better roads and improved footpaths continues to be a top priority for me. When I sought re-election in 2019, I did so on a platform that included delivering a dedicated local roads and footpath improvement programme.

In the last five years, I have helped deliver €11m in roads and footpath improvements with 2024 seeing a total of €3.12m being allocated by Dublin City Council and directly by Fine Gael in Government to improve local road surfaces and make our footpaths safer.

The road surface improvement programme will begin later in the year, probably from September on. The dedicated footpath enhancement scheme across the North Inner City will begin next month, as the works involved take longer to complete. More than half a million euro will be spent this year to rebuild footpaths along Clonliffe Gardens, Clonliffe Avenue, Bachelor’s Way and Rathdown Road. I am delivering funding also to complete the full upgrade of West Road, where the last stretch of footpath between Moy Elta Road and East Wall Road will be improved.

Significant road improvement works this year will take place along Spring Garden Street, the full resurfacing of St. Bricin’s Park in Arbour Hill and Niall Street in Stoneybatter. Jervis Street will also be upgraded this year as will stretches of Church Street, Blackhall Place, Poplar Row, Sheriff Street Upper, Strandville Avenue, and Granby Row.

Direct Government funding through URDF money for public realm improvements in the Markets and around the Five Lamps will see almost €2m spent improving road surfaces along Halston Street, Little Britain Street, North William Street, Dunne Street, North Great Clarence Street and North William Street. I have also been working closely with Summer Street North residents to deliver improvements to the road surface there and I am delighted to be able to help deliver those improvements this year.

Delivering quality roads and safer footpaths will always be a top priority for me and as YOUR experienced and hard-working local Councillor, I will endeavour to keep delivering for you, your family and the communities of the North Inner City.
