€39.3m investment for #NorthInnerCity cycling & walking facilities in 2023

Prior to Christmas, I sought a progress report from the Active Travel Department of Dublin City Council on the planned cycling and walking infrastructure projects identified across the North Inner City.

In seeking this update, I asked officials to specify the dedicated or protected cycle schemes being developed across the Central Area; the response should detail the full list, the status of each individual project; the timeframe for likely delivery of same and to specify the route upon which these infrastructural projects will be located. I have outlined below the response I received and the progress being made.

It is very positive news that, today, the National Transport Authority has announced funding of almost €40m this year to advance the construction, planning and design of these projects. The majority of the funding has been allocated towards the Fairview to Amiens Street scheme but other large allocations have been made towards Phase 3 of the Royal Canal Greenway, the North Circular Road scheme, Parnell Square to College Green as well as funding for individual Safe Routes to School initiatives including St. Paul’s on Brunswick Street.

I’ll have a specific breakdown of the funding in the coming days but below is the most up to date report on each of these exciting projects planned in, through and across the North Inner City which will be progressed this year to enhance our facilities for cycling and walking in Dublin.

If you would like more information on any of these initiatives, please get in touch with me at RayMcAdam@gmail.com.
