Construction work on remainder of Royal Canal Greenway to start by September

Yesterday, I attended a meeting with officials from National Transport Authority that was facilitated by Dublin Central T.D. and Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe.

The meeting provided us with an opportunity to secure an update on key transport infrastructure projects being advanced by the National Transport Authority, including BusConnects, MetroLink and sustainable transport projects like improved cycling infrastructure in the North Inner City and across the city. In the coming days, Minister Donohoe and I will share further updates on each of these projects. However, I can now advise, following confirmation being provided to Minister Donohoe that works should begin on Phases 3 and 4 of the Royal Canal Greenway by August or September.

In addition to this, Minister Donohoe received confirmation that further landscaping works will be completed along the stretch of the new Greenway between Seville Place and the North Strand. Further tree planting and new murals are to be arranged in the coming days,

With regards to Phase 3, involving the stretch between the North Strand and Cross Guns Bridge in Phibsborough, tendering to select a building contractor will take place next month. It is anticipated that constructions will begin on this stretch by August and is likely to take approximately 15 months to complete.

Phase 4, linking Phibsborough and Ashtown, through Cabra should, it is hoped, see construction works begin around September. A tendering process for the selection of a contractor will take place in March. Again, it is expected that construction period will take approximately 15 months.

Ever since, Minister Donohoe gave the go ahead for the Royal Canal Greenway during his time as Transport Minister, both he and I have sought to ensure this project is advanced as quickly as possible and that we strive to keep you updated on progress being made in delivering this important civic amenity.
