ARBOUR HILL TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

I can confirm that construction work will begin on the Arbour Hill Traffic Improvement Scheme in April 2019. The Roads Department of Dublin City Council will undertake further investigative trial holes between now and the middle of March with the major construction phase including the delivery of new footpaths starting in April. This will mark a culmination of work that I along with local residents have been undertaking to improve road safety for everyone living in the Arbour Hill area.

 

WHERE STANDS THE LIFFEY CYCLE ROUTE?

Dublin City Council has not received a recommendation from the National Transport Authority regarding the Liffey Cycle Route.  Officials in the Transportation Department have advised me that a recommendation is anticipated no later than the end of March 2019. As and when that recommendation is shared with Councillors, I will ensure that those details are circulated locally for your consideration and feedback.

 

BUSCONNECTS PUBLIC CONSULTATION EXTENDED

I attended last week’s Stoneybatter Forum in the Ashling Hotel, organised by the National Transport Authority (NTA), to discuss the proposed Blanchardstown Core Bus Corridor. At that meeting, NTA officials confirmed that due to the pending publication of the Ballymun Core Bus Corridor and how that will impact the north-west inner city, my request to extend the Public Consultation on the bus corridor affecting Stoneybatter. They have confirmed that submissions can now be made up until Friday, March 29th next. BusConnects.ie will be updated shortly to reflect this consultation extension.

DRAFT DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL PARKING BYE LAWS 2019

Councillors agreed at the February City Council meeting to initiate a public consultation on the draft Parking Bye Laws for 2019. The proposed amendments include:

As the current charging structure hasn’t been reviewed since October 2008, it is proposed to increase the charges in the Yellow Zone (Monday to Saturday) to €3.20/hour and in the Red Zone to €2.70/hour. This is an increase of 9% and 11% respectively. To encourage motorists to use the Parking Tag App, it is proposed to only increase the Yellow Zone Charge to €3.10/hour and the Red Zone Charge to €2.60/hour for Parking Tag users. It is also proposed to introduce a charge for Coach Parking in the City, in designated Coach Parking Bays. This rate is to be set at €9 per hour. All other charges will remain unchanged.

It is proposed to lower the quota for dwellings not formally in multiple units to 1 permit per premises.

It is proposed to include for, when the technology allows, a virtual parking permit system for Residential and Visitors Permits.

It is proposed to widen certain boundaries of the Green, Red and Yellow Zone to reflect the change in demand in these areas.

Submissions should be made in writing to Mr. Dermot Stevenson, Parking Enforcement Officer, Environment and Transportation Department, Block 2, Floor 6, Civic Offices, Fishamble Street, Dublin 8. The deadline for submissions to be received by Dublin City Council is Friday, March 22nd at 4.30pm. 

 

ACCESS TO APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

The Access to Apprenticeship Programme is aimed at young men and women aged 16 to 24 living in Dublin who experience social and economic barriers. The Programme provides an opportunity for young people to;

The purpose of the programme is to progress young people into apprenticeships. The closing date for applications is Friday the 8th of March 2019 at 1p.m. I strongly recommend starting the application as soon as possible as it could take some time to get the required documentation together. INTERESTED IN WORKING IN CONSTRUCTION?

CALL IN & MEET GRANGEGORMAN CONTRACTORS WHO ARE HIRING

The ‘Meet the Contractor’ event is organised by the Grangegorman Labour and Learning Forum (GLLF), Sisk FCC and the Grangegorman Development Agency with participation from Grangegorman Development contractors, the Dublin North West Area Partnership, DEASP/Intreo, TU Dublin Access to Apprenticeship, and the Construction Industry Federation. The event takes place on Wednesday, February 27th next between 9am and 12noon in St. Laurence’s Church on the Grangegorman Campus. The aim of the ‘Meet the Contractor’ event is to bring people from the North West Inner City and surrounding communities interested in working in construction together with contractors on the Grangegorman Development who are hiring.  This is an informal event and all are welcome, whether unemployed or in employment. There’s no need to register –  anyone interested is invited to just drop in for a cup of tea and a chat. In addition to hiring contractors, there will be advice and support on CVs/job applications/interviews, social welfare information, details of the TU Dublin free Access to Apprenticeship programme, updates on the Grangegorman Development, and information on the wider construction sector plus free refreshments. So, whether you are interested in working on site or simply eager to hear more about the works taking place on site, please call in if you can.
