Lord Mayor confirms next steps for Dalymount Park redevelopment as Dublin City Council approves €34m funding package

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Ray McAdam, has welcomed the approval by Dublin City Council of the €34.03 million borrowing requirement to fund the redevelopment of Dalymount Park — confirming that the project is now formally moving into its delivery phase.

Speaking after the Council meeting, the Lord Mayor said:

“Tonight’s decision is a major step forward in securing the future of Dalymount Park and ensuring that this iconic stadium is rebuilt for a new generation. As Lord Mayor, I am determined to see this project advanced during my term, and the approval of this funding means we now have a clear path to delivery.”

Following questions from the Lord Mayor during the meeting, the Chief Executive confirmed that:

• A main contractor is expected to be appointed by Summer 2026,

• Bohemian FC will vacate the stadium at the end of the 2026 League of Ireland season, and

• Demolition and construction work will begin immediately afterwards — this time next year.

This timeline keeps the project on track for completion in late 2028, with pitch installation and final works to follow.

The redevelopment — backed by a total project investment of €63.7 million — will deliver:

• A new 8,034-capacity UEFA Category 3 stadium

• Modern matchday, office, and club facilities for Bohemian FC

• A 585 sq.m publicly-accessible community space and gym

• A new public plaza linking North Circular Road and Connaught Street

• Space and infrastructure for concerts and non-sporting events

• A major boost to the regeneration of Phibsborough village

The Lord Mayor added:

Dalymount is not just a football ground — it is part of the identity of this city. It deserves more than nostalgia; it deserves renewal. Tonight’s decision confirms that the finances are secured, the schedule is defined, and that demolition and construction will begin next year. This project will deliver a new home for Bohs, a new asset for the community, and a new anchor for the regeneration of Phibsborough.”

A Part 8 Amendment to reflect value engineering design changes is currently being finalised, with Dublin City Council expected to lodge this in early 2026.

The Lord Mayor confirmed he will now convene a Dalymount Project Stakeholder Group which will meet in the Mansion House to track progress and ensure delivery momentum is maintained.

“The era of plans and promises is over. The era of delivery begins now.”
