Liberty Park Playground Re-opens in Dublin 1

A heart of play for the Sean McDermott Street community

This afternoon, I was proud—both as Lord Mayor of Dublin and as the local Councillor—to mark the re-opening of Liberty Park Playground in the heart of Dublin 1.

Liberty Park is hugely important to the communities in and around Sean McDermott Street. With so much new housing being delivered locally, it’s vital that this park continues to be the heart of play and enjoyment for children and families—a safe, welcoming place to meet friends after school, at weekends, and on long summer evenings.

Today’s re-opening belongs to the community. Thank you to everyone who helped bring Liberty Park back to life. Together, we’re investing in a Living City with great neighbourhood amenities, an Active City where children build healthy habits through play, and an Engaged City where spaces are shaped with—and cared for by—the people who use them.”

My sincere thanks to local residents and tenants’ groups, parents and schools, youth organisations, community Gardaí, my fellow Councillors, and the Dublin City Council Parks, Biodiversity & Landscape team, designers and contractors. Your persistence and partnership made today possible.

As we turn the key on this next chapter for Liberty Park, I’m asking everyone to join a simple “Liberty Park Play Pledge”: look out for one another, respect the space, and share it fairly—so every child gets their turn.

See you in the park. Bainigí sult as—enjoy every minute!
