Elected as Lord Mayor of Dublin

Earlier this week, I was was elected the 358th Lord Mayor of Dublin. It is an immense privilege to be elected to this office and serve the people of Dublin as Lord Mayor.

It is an amazing honour to serve this city — a city that has shaped me, inspired me, and given me a sense of purpose.

Celebrating Dublin: My Vision as Lord Mayor

Over the next twelve months, my mission is simple but profound: to celebrate Dublin. That means celebrating not only who we are as a people, but who we have the potential to become — as a capital city of vibrancy, fairness, inclusion, and ambition. My approach is rooted in partnership, civic pride, and a deep belief in the capacity of our city to evolve and thrive.

To that end, I’ve outlined five key initiatives that will define my mayoralty:

  1. Reimagining Our City Centre – Launching Dublin 2050
I will establish a Lord Mayor’s Commission on Dublin 2050 to shape a long-term vision for a reimagined capital core. From revitalising O’Connell Street to supporting the Government’s City Centre Taskforce, this initiative aims to restore civic pride and create a city centre where people live, work, visit, and belong.
  2. From Vacancy to Vibrancy – Tackling Dereliction
I will drive efforts to end the blight of dereliction through a new public Vacancy Map and by advocating for a dedicated Reuse Division within the Council’s planned Special Purpose Vehicle. Together, we can bring life back to empty buildings and neglected streets.
  3. Get Dublin Moving – Championing Sport and Wellbeing
Building on the Council’s Sports and Wellbeing Plan, this initiative will promote inclusive access to physical activity across all ages and abilities — from GAA for the Ma’s to cricket in inner-city schools. Sport builds community, and this year, we’ll help Dublin move forward — together.
  4. A Dublin Disability Inclusion Drive
Inspired by the “Empowering Our Future” report, I’m committed to making Dublin Ireland’s most inclusive city for people with disabilities — in public spaces, cultural life, employment, and political representation. Inclusion must be the default — not the exception.
  5. Young Dubliners Speak – A Civic Dialogue with the Next Generation
Through schools, clubs, and youth groups, we’ll invite young Dubliners to share their frustrations, dreams, and ideas for the city. Their voices will shape a report to Council — because they are not only the future of Dublin, but the present too.

In addition to these five priorities, I will work to ensure the full implementation of the Government’s City Centre Taskforce plan, push for more powers and resources for Dublin City Council, and support symbolic actions that reflect our shared values — including the installation of a public statue on O’Connell Street to honour the Women of the Revolution.

Dublin is never finished. But together — as councillors, communities, and citizens — we can build the best version of this extraordinary city. Over the coming year, I will do all I can to be a Lord Mayor worthy of that goal.
