Cathal Brugha Street to Become Flagship Further Education College — A Major Boost for Dublin’s North Inner City

Fine Gael Councillor for the North Inner City, Ray McAdam, has welcomed the announcement by Ministers James Lawless TD and Marian Harkin TD of significant government support for the development of a flagship Further Education and Training (FET) College at Cathal Brugha Street.
The project, led by the City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB), has now received approval to progress to the next stage of development. This investment, part of the Government’s College of the Future programme, will see tens of millions of euros committed to transforming the historic Cathal Brugha Street site into a state-of-the-art centre for further education.
“This is a hugely welcome announcement and another real vote of confidence in Dublin’s North Inner City,” Councillor McAdam said. “It will breathe new life into a building that has played a central role in Dublin’s educational history for over a century, and ensure it remains a vibrant centre of learning for generations to come.”
“The development of a flagship FET College in the heart of our capital city will significantly strengthen the range of learning opportunities available to local residents — from apprenticeships and upskilling to career changes and lifelong learning,” he added.
Councillor McAdam also praised the sustainability focus of the project:
“This is about revitalising a key city centre location in a way that supports climate goals and delivers real social value for our community.”
The Cathal Brugha Street project forms part of the wider Government strategy to modernise and expand the FET sector, ensuring learners have access to top-class facilities in accessible urban settings. CDETB will now work closely with SOLAS and the Department to advance the project to construction phase.
“This is another positive milestone for the North Inner City and reflects the continued Government commitment to investing in our community,” McAdam concluded.
