Talbot Street Public Realm Improvement Scheme launched

Last night, I joined Lord Mayor, Cllr. Emma Blain in launching the Talbot Street Public Realm Improvements Scheme.

Under the direction of Dublin City Council’s City Co-Ordination Office, a number of departments in the Council and other external stakeholders have been working together in recent months towards a shared aim of rejuvenating the area.

With that in mind, various initiatives have taken place including:

•An improvement to paths and road surfaces to help smooth the flow of traffic and make the area more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists.

•Upgrading of existing public street lighting to ensure better visibility and safety, especially at night.

•The introduction of feature lighting on Talbot St bridge and Festoon Lighting in the area to give the street a more welcoming look and feel.

•New bespoke green spaces to soften the urban landscape and make the street more welcoming and environmentally friendly.

•The introduction of pop-up uses for vacant or underused buildings, which could include temporary shops and artistic spaces.

•Improvements to shopfronts and design elements to give the area a more cohesive and attractive visual identity.

For too long, Talbot Street was a street in need of attention. It is now a street transformed, a more welcoming space for all. While there is still more to do, this initiative shows that street by street, we can and will enhance our city streets to make Dublin a cleaner, greener and more vibrant place to enjoy, to work and to connect.

This an exciting opportunity for our city, and I want us to make the most of it.
