Royal Canal Greenway – June 2018 Update
Earlier this week, I asked Dublin City Council Chief Executive, Owen Keegan, to update me on the expected delivery times for each phase of the Royal Canal Greenway from Sheriff Street to Ashdown.
The Chief Executive came back to me with an update with a report for Phases 2, 3 and 4 which I have detailed below.

Phase 2: Sheriff Street to Newcomen Bridge:
Dublin City Council has deferred the award of the Construction Contract for Royal Canal Phase 2 (Sheriff Street to North Strand Road). Dublin City Council is awaiting licenses from Irish Rail and CIÉ. It had been anticipated that these licences would be in place by end April 2018. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has requested that a review of the scheme be carried out in the context of the proposed Dart Expansion Programme, focusing on the possibility of a twin track arrangement to Connolly Station. Dublin City Council has now completed this review and a submission has been made to the NTA. We are now awaiting a decision from both the NTA, Irish Rail and CIÉ on the matter. Dublin City Council is in a position to appoint the Contractor as soon as the licenses are on hand.
Phase 3: Newcomen Bridge to Cross Gun’s Bridge
The NTA have recently confirmed funding to advance this phase of the project through tender and start construction in 2018. Our consultant OCSC is currently finalising the tender documents with the intention of going to tender in the coming weeks.
Phase 4: Cross Gun’s Bridge to Ashtown
Request for tender documents for Consultancy Services for the detailed design for Phase 4 were issued on 30th May with return due date of 22nd June. It is anticipated therefore that a consultant will be in place to commence detailed design by the end of July. It is envisaged that the works will be designed and constructed in a phased basis with Phase 1: widening and overlay of sections not dependant on land acquisition commencing construction in Q2 2019.

Very important to keep households at entrance to sheriff st end upto speed Ray, also bellmans walk, ferrymans crossing, keyhole in cannonlillis Avenue, end of lower oriel st also as all these will be directly backing onto new cycling / walking track and security is key issue for them re possible access into thier backyards, garden wall height increases and fencing will possibly be required.

Thanks – It would be interesting to know if there will be a Greenway from Ashtown to Maynooth – Kilcock – Enfield – Kinnegad – Mullingar – where bikes can pass ! Could make for an enjoyable day out with Cafes along the way.

I was wondering if Phase 4 of the Greenway development is still scheduled to begin in Q2 of this year? Many thanks Anne Delaney
